Compose for film and animation, the web, installation, theatre and contemporary dance.
Sound design occupies an important place within the digital media industry. Sound fundamentally changes how we feel. Sound is a powerful tool for generating emotion, clarifying actions, providing feedback and influencing perception.
The sound lecturers in Digital Media are all practicing professionals, working as sound designers and composers in film, TV, VR, games, installation, theatre, contemporary dance and experimental music.
In the Bachelor of Design (Digital Media), students compose for film and animation, the web, installation, theatre and contemporary dance. They also explore experimental practices, instrument building and how sound can integrate with robotics, light, vibration and movement.
Students get a range of firsthand experiences of how sound is applied in industry, locally and internationally, through internships with film composers, sound design firms, galleries, theatre and dance companies.
Recent internships include those on the forthcoming feature film Boys in the Trees (Mushroom Pictures); Sanctuary, a digital environment at the Peter Maccallum Cancer Centre (Continental Hospitality Group); I call my Brothers (Melbourne Theatre Company); and the Einsturzende Neubauten Klangbewegungmaschne exhibition (Goethe Institut/RMIT Gallery).
