Chris James has completed the Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management), but he’s not stopping there. He is now exploring further study to take him to the top of the HR ladder.
A lot of doors opened for Chris while studying human resource management and now he hopes to push through some more.
“I plan on doing a Master of Commerce next year because I feel I have gained enough real-world experience through the places I have worked during my bachelor degree,” he said.
“Following this I hope to enter a human resource generalist based role and eventually become a Director of Human Resources.”
Promising job opportunities and industry connections drew Chris to at RMIT.
“Human resources is a growing industry which all organisations need,” he said.
“It is also an area where being an open and happy person is a benefit and makes a difference to the everyday lives of your colleagues.”
While studying for his degree, Chris undertook an internship that not only cemented what he was learning in the classroom, but helped him land a casual job in the industry.
“I participated in a University placed internship program at Michael Page International where I learned a ridiculous amount about HR practices,” he said.
“I gained a huge amount of knowledge and connections in the HR and recruitment industries. The people I worked with were some of the best individuals I’ve ever met and I still keep in touch with them.
“As a result of the internship, I also secured a place casually at RMIT doing recruitment based work for the Cooperative Education Program.”
To help fund his studies, Chris received an equity scholarship. He says this took the stress off his finances and gave him the ability to pursue a full range of university experiences.
Outside the classroom, Chris chose to participate in extra-curricular activities that extended his social circle at the same time as enhancing his learning.
“Both of these were a great experience and it is where I made many friends for life.”
