After 12 years in the workforce, returning to study has given Frederik Mulder the perfect launching pad for a new career in strategic planning.
Advanced Diploma of International Business graduate Frederik Mulder.
Frederik completed the Advanced Diploma of International Business in 2015 and says he loved that the program focused on real world scenarios which could be applied directly to the work force.
“The course content was practical and relevant to today’s business environment,” he said.
“We did a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) project which required us to help launch a small local brand into the export market and expand the business overseas.
“It was great to work with a real client rather than a theoretical case study.”
Frederik enjoyed meeting new people and working with his peers on group assignments.
“As a more mature age student I tended to take a leadership role and was able to draw from past my experiences,” he said.
He is hoping to build a career in strategic planning within the civil aviation industry and chose to study International Business as it allows you to look at the world from a global perspective.
“As a resident of multiple countries who has an interest in strategy and global commerce, international business seemed like the perfect fit,” he said.
Frederik is now undertaking the Bachelor of Business (Economics and Finance) and says the two programs complement each other.
“The Advanced Diploma offered a practical approach while the degree is more theoretical – I believe it is good to have exposure to both,” he said.
“I knew that I wanted to continue my studies and progress into a finance degree and I love that RMIT offered such a clear pathway.
“I have also found the University’s support facilities to be world class with excellent online tools and one-on- one mentoring and feedback.”
He says returning to study is interesting, challenging and rewarding and his advice for other students is clear.
“Always give everything and maintain your focus - you’ll get more out of it and will reap great benefit in the end.”
