The purpose
The Fund supports new ventures through pre-seed loans of up to A$25,000.
The Fund was created to help businesses reach a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to enable successful market launch and/or attract third party investment for further business growth.
Format
Funds are awarded based on a milestone driven approach and are provided as an interest free loan, emulating typical business rules. Based on set criteria, funding of up to A$25K may be awarded through multiple increments. Teams will be selected to pitch to the Capital Fund Board based on the stage of their business, readiness to pitch and level of engagement in the Activator LaunchHUB program. If selected, startup teams will pitch to the Board outlining specific outcomes that will be achieved by their business over the following 3 months. Note: RMIT does not take any form of equity in any Activator startup.
Eligibility
To be considered for Activator Capital Funding, startup teams must:
*It is possible to apply for company status and register a bank account after the funding application, however this must be completed within the funding window.
We welcome both solo founders and teams to apply.
This program is free! RMIT is committed to developing an entrepreneurial culture and supporting enterprise development amongst our community.
Selected teams need to commit 4 hours a week to program participation, which includes Monday morning stand-up meetings. Founders get the most value from the program through active participation. This includes working from the co-working space, attending masterclasses, networking events and weekly catch-ups with the startup coaches.
Every Monday, we kick off the week with a stand-up meeting to set our goals and intentions for the week. Masterclasses run weekly on Tuesdays between 4:00pm – 6:00pm, with social events on Thursdays between 5:30pm – 7:30pm.
RMIT Activator does NOT claim any IP rights in respect of idea or startup. However, RMIT staff applying for LaunchHUB need to consult with RMIT Research and Innovation given that RMIT has ownership of intellectual property created by staff members in the course of their employment.
LaunchHUB participants have the opportunity to apply for the Activator Capital Fund which grants an interest free loan of up to $25k. Activator will determine your suitability and readiness for funding based on a set criteria. All successful applicants will be expected to pitch for funding and show what specific outcomes will be achieved over the following 3 months.
RMIT does not take any form of equity in any Activator startup.
Yes, but teams need to apply for Company Status and bank account within the funding window after submitting their application.
LaunchHUB runs three times per year, so support for your startup is never out of reach. Programs dates for 2019:
Our program involves weekly commitment so as long as you can be flexible with your timing to attend our weekly stand-ups every Monday at 10am–11am and work from the co-working space part or full time during the week.
If you don’t think you’re able to commit to this involvement right now, we recommend applying for a future program. We run three cohorts each year, so you never have to wait too long for the next round! In the meantime, please connect with us via our online offerings including Activator Rise and our Micro Credentials.
