Spring and Summer electives

The School of Global, Urban and Social Studies offers Higher Education electives for Spring and Summer semesters.

A wide range of electives are available in diverse areas such as Global Studies, Justice and Legal Studies, Language Studies, and Sustainability and Urban Planning.

As you think about taking up an elective in the Spring or Summer semester, there are several factors to consider.

You need to ensure you have met the course prerequisite/s (if applicable) and have obtained permission from your program or School to enrol into the course.

Official results for the Spring and Summer semesters are not published immediately after the last date of the semester.

If you are planning to finish your program by completing a Spring semester elective, you will not be able to graduate at the Melbourne Graduation Ceremony in December as the official results for Spring semester are published after the graduation date.

For the Summer semester, if you are an inbound cross-institutional student, be aware results may be released several weeks after the end of the semester.

Enrolments for Spring and Summer semesters must be completed via Enrolment Online.

Courses or classes may be cancelled due to low enrolment numbers.

Timetables are available the Student Timetabling system.

It is important that you check the information available for the relevant electives for the following:

  • class times
  • start dates and end dates
  • census dates
  • the enrolment process

Census date

It is important to note the census date on your confirmation of enrolment notification.

Each course may have a different census date depending on the commencement date of the course. Accordingly, the generic university census dates for spring and summer semesters do NOT apply to the Spring and Summer courses offered by the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies.

The census date listed on your confirmation of enrolment notification will therefore be enforced if you wish to withdraw your enrolment, so ensure that you drop out of your course by the census date listed, otherwise you will incur financial and/or academic penalties accordingly.
